Inez "Tootie" Adkins

I believe every person in Compton is worthy of respect, opportunity, and a city government that shows up for them.
Inez Adkins - Running for Mayor
A Leader Rooted in Service
Inez currently serves on the City of Compton’s Public Safety Committee, working directly with the Sheriff’s Department, community stakeholders, and everyday residents to address crime, strengthen accountability, and rebuild trust. Her focus is on real results, not political talking points because safety is not a slogan, it’s a responsibility.
Before this role, she served as a manager at Angeles Abbey Cemetery, guiding families through some of their most painful moments. There, she learned compassion, patience, dignity, and the true meaning of service qualities that now shape her leadership and her commitment to the people of Compton.
A Working Woman Who Understands Real Families
As a proud longshore worker (ILWU), Inez knows what it means to work hard, provide for a family, and overcome everyday challenges. She represents the heart of Compton working-class residents who deserve safe streets, fair services, and a city government that finally works for them.
Her leadership is rooted in real life, not political theory.
A Lifetime of Community Work
Inez has spent years behind the scenes strengthening Compton, including:
-
Advocating for local economic development
-
Supporting projects like bringing Foot Locker to the community
-
Hosting youth programs and community-building events
-
Supporting victims of gun violence through her nonprofit, Hope After Tragedy
-
Mentoring youth and exposing them to careers, travel, and future pathways
-
Connecting families to resources, services, and support
-
Creating early financial literacy programs through My First REIT, Inc.
Her work has never been about attention it’s been about impact.
